I wish I were still a college student!

It was a great event, I was part of, Last weekend. I, with a group of alumni, had gone to my college to conduct a kind of mock interview to the current students. Its always a great feel for everyone to go back to the college they studied and to meet up the friends who we seldom get together.

The apparent purpose of this event was to give the students a real feel of attending the campus interview and to make them identify their strengths and weaknesses, so that they can prepare themselves so as to win the campus interview. A noble intention, Right? There were also some hidden reasons for me ;-). Kindly disregard them.

We have done our part very well, nothing special to put in the picture about that. But I should tell you that I was really amazed seeing the students’ interest shown towards this event and their receptivity. They were so keen to learn about their weak areas. Isn’t it a good sign for one to grow up in the ladder? There were so many things for me to learn from them, some basic intrinsic qualities like Obedience, enthusiasm and Co-ordination, etc. I don’t think you could find all these things together anywhere else but an academy. I really feel like having learnt something out of this event.

Above and all, I was really happy hearing that many students who attended this event last year got placed in some good companies. They came to me personally, thanked as if I did some magic in them and I was kind of repressed. Their hard work has been paid off.

Altogether I really enjoyed being over there for two days, meeting the friends, roaming around the places in the college. I wish I were still a college student!

Black belt

A martial artist is kneeling down before the master sensei in a ceremony to receive a hard-earned black belt. After years of relentless training, the student has finally reached a pinnacle of achievement in the discipline.

"Before granting the belt, you must pass one more test," says the sensei.

"I am ready," responds the student, expecting perhaps one final round of sparring.

"You must answer the essential question: What is the true meaning of the black belt?"

"The end of my journey," says the student. "A well-deserved reward for all my hard work."

The sensei waits for a while. Clearly, he is not satisfied. Finally, the sensei speaks. "You are not yet ready for the black belt. Return in one year."

A year later, the student kneels again in front of the sensei. "What is the true meaning of the black belt?" asks the sensei.

"A symbol of distinction and the highest achievement in our art," says the student.

The sensei says nothing for many minutes, waiting. Clearly, he is not satisfied. Finally, he speaks. "You are still not ready for the black belt. Return in one year."

A year later, the student kneels once again in front of the sensei. And again the sensei asks: "What is the true meaning of the black belt?"

"The black belt represents the beginning -- the start of a never-ending journey of discipline, work, and the pursuit of an ever-higher standard," says the student.

"Yes. You are now ready to receive the black belt and begin your work."

There seem to be so many lessons in this story.
Here is one to me...Do buy a belt, sorry black belt, before you begin your work.

Anything else strikes you???
